Two examples he noted were the Radnor Tap trails and trails in the Furness Park system. It was originally funded by a $10 million bond in 2018 and has allotted $4.5 million to 26 municipalities. ![]() ![]() Steven Beckley, Delaware County Open Space and Trails Manager, said the Delco Greenways Grant Program is one way the county is advancing the goals of the 2015 Open Space & Recreation Greenway plan. Schaefer noted that trail projects require more than just money and credited the newly created Delco Trail Alliance for educating and advocating for trail issues. “It’s an exciting time – look for a lot of progress in Delco in the next couple of years.” “We’re trying very hard to make these smart investments and catch up to the rest of the world in our trails and adding to the circuit,” Schaefer said. The county capital plan also calls for an infusion of $5 million every year to go to such projects. The county has invested $7.5 million to trails and open space this past year. It was co-sponsored by the Friends of Haverford Trails, and the Haverford Township Parks and Recreation Department, with support from the Delco Trails Alliance.ĭelaware County Council Vice Chair Elaine Paul Schaefer said it has been a priority of the council to increase investment in trail and open space in Delaware County. The virtual summit focused on trails and on-street bicycling/pedestrian improvements and opportunities for walkers and cyclists throughout Delaware County. The 10th annual Western Suburbs Trail Summit was held last week and highlighted the ever-increasing biking and hiking trail system in Delaware County. ![]()
